This section presents the perennial teaching of the Catholic Church as it has been faithfully handed down. References are drawn from Sacred Scripture, the Catechism of the Council of Trent, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and authoritative councils. Wherever these sources express the same doctrine, they are cited together; where differences in language may introduce ambiguity, preference is given to the more precise traditional formulation.
