The Mass & the Sacred

The Church’s worship is the highest expression of her faith. These teachings explain the reality of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, the Real Presence of Christ, and the reverence due to sacred things.

  • The Confusion
Many understand the Mass primarily as a communal gathering or symbolic meal.

    The Truth
The Mass is the true and unbloody Sacrifice of Calvary, made present on the altar. It is not merely a meal, but a sacrifice in which Christ offers Himself to the Father.

    Why It Matters
If the sacrificial nature of the Mass is forgotten, reverence declines and belief in the Real Presence weakens.

  • The Confusion
Many treat the Eucharist as a symbol and approach the Mass casually, as though Christ were not truly present.

    The Truth
In the Holy Eucharist, Jesus Christ is truly, really, and substantially present—Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity. He is to be adored with the highest reverence.

    Why It Matters
When belief in the Real Presence weakens, reverence declines. When reverence declines, belief is further eroded—leading to widespread loss of faith in the Eucharist.

  • The Confusion

    The Truth
The priest acts in persona Christi, especially in offering the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and administering the sacraments.

    Why It Matters
Misunderstanding the priesthood weakens the sacrificial nature of the Mass and the sacred character of the Church.

    • Catechism of the Council of Trent, Part II (Holy Orders)

    • Council of Trent (Session 23)

  • The Confusion

    The Truth
consecration, the substance of bread and wine is changed into the Body and Blood of Christ. What remains is no longer bread, but Christ Himself.

Failure to recognize this truth leads to irreverence and sacrilege.
